Sidewall conveyor belts (corrugated sidewalls, cleats)
A sidewall belt has corrugated sidewalls along its edges and transverse cleats between them. Together they form "pockets" that hold the material, so the conveyor can run at steep inclines – up to vertical (90°). More material is conveyed on the same floor area, and fewer conveyors are needed. The belt is also known as a corrugated sidewall belt or a belt with sidewalls and cleats.
Advantages
operation at steep inclines, up to vertical conveying
higher capacity for the same belt width
less space and fewer conveyors
less material spillage
the belt can run from a horizontal into an inclined or vertical section
Applications
quarries, concrete plants and cement plants
thermal power plants and power generation
foundries and steel mills
mines
recycling and waste treatment
wood industry – chips
ports – ship loading and unloading
silos and bulk storage
Belt components
Base belt – a special cross-rigid belt that does not sag between the sidewalls; for light and heavy-duty operating conditions
Sidewalls (corrugated) – corrugated rubber edges, approximately 40 to 400 mm high; higher sidewalls have fabric reinforcement
Cleats – transverse cleats that carry the material; straight for moderate inclines, inclined for steep and vertical conveyors
Side baffles for fine and dusty material, if required
Rubber versions
abrasion-resistant (standard)
moderately oil-resistant
heat-resistant
Self-extinguishing and antistatic versions for use in ATEX zones (explosion-hazard areas) are available on request.
How we select the belt
We determine the sidewall height and the type and pitch of the cleats based on the material, lump size, capacity and conveyor incline. The cleat must be lower than the sidewall, and the cleat pitch and width depend on the largest lump of material. For the right choice, send us details of the conveyor and the material.
Installation, splicing and repair
We deliver and install the belt on site.
We join the sidewalls and cleats by cold vulcanising.
We repair and replace damaged sidewalls and cleats on the existing belt – without replacing the whole belt.

How to request a quote
Send us:
a sketch or photo of the conveyor (horizontal, inclined and vertical sections, incline)
belt width and length
type of material, largest lump size and approximate temperature
required capacity
designation of the existing belt, if any
FAQ
Up to what incline does a sidewall belt work?
Up to vertical conveying (90°), depending on the cleat design.
Can a damaged sidewall be repaired?
Yes – we repair or replace damaged sidewalls and cleats on the existing belt.
Is it the same as a chevron belt?
No. A chevron belt has low cleats and works up to about 40°; a sidewall belt has sidewalls and cleats and also works at much steeper inclines. Chevron belts →
Need a sidewall belt?
Send us a sketch of the conveyor, the belt width and the type of material – we will get back to you with a quote.
