Chevron conveyor belts

A smooth conveyor belt can only convey material up to an incline of about 22°, and for many materials even less – above that, the material starts sliding back. Chevron belts have V-shaped rubber cleats on the carrying surface, vulcanised together with the belt. The cleats hold the material on the belt, so the conveyor can run at inclines of up to about 40°, with a shorter structure and less space.

Applications

  • quarries, gravel pits and screening plants

  • mobile crushers and screens

  • cement and lime plants

  • road milling machines

  • recycling and waste disposal

  • mines

  • agriculture – beet, grain, potatoes, fertilisers, wood chips

  • compact plants, loading conveyors and sack handling

Cleat height and recommended incline

Cleats are available in low, medium and high versions. Approximate inclines (Low cleat / Medium cleat / High cleat):

  • Flour, lime – 25° / 30° / 33°

  • Grain, sand, gypsum – 20° / 25° / 25°

  • Crushed stone, gravel – 25° / 30° / 30°

  • Wet sand, ash, soil – 30° / 35° / 40°

  • Sacks – 30° / 35° / 40°

Values depend on the material, loading method and belt speed – we advise on the choice for each specific conveyor.

Cleat patterns

  • classic – for most applications

  • closed and offset – for free-flowing and fine materials

  • recycling versions

  • multiple cleats – for sacks, chips and light materials

Cleats can also be made to measure, in shape and height.

Versions

  • abrasion-resistant (standard)

  • oil and grease resistant

  • with metal rip-stop insert

  • sliding (for running on a slider bed), abrasion-resistant or oil resistant

  • self-extinguishing and oil resistant – on request

Operating temperature of the standard version: –20 to +80 °C.

Antistatic and self-extinguishing versions for use in ATEX zones (explosion-hazard areas) are available on request.

Installation notes

Higher cleats require a larger pulley diameter.

During installation we also make sure return idlers and belt cleaners are suited to the cleats. Before ordering, we check the conveyor and propose the right version.

Sizes and availability

  • We keep the most common sizes in stock and source other widths, cleat heights and versions at short notice.

  • We cut belts to the required length.

Splicing

For chevron belts we make all types of splices – hot and cold vulcanising and mechanical fasteners. Conveyor belt vulcanising and splicing →

FAQ

Up to what incline does a chevron belt work?

Depending on material and cleat height, usually 25–35°, and up to 40° for wet materials and sacks.

Can I fit a chevron belt on an existing conveyor?

Usually yes, but pulley diameters, return idlers and cleaners need to be checked.

How is a chevron belt cleaned?

Standard scrapers do not work well on cleats – we recommend suitable cleaners or brushes.
